So in early May I get a call from John. He knows of someone who knows someone looking for a "rock" guitar player, "am I interested." This call was just a day after John and I chatting about such fun topics as how depressed I was about not playing, how I hated getting old, and some feelings we shared about music. I was flattered that he thought of me, and while my initial reaction was going to be to say I'm not interested, I decided to say that I would at least talk to them. Afterall John plays guitar, as like most people around here he's lived here most of his life. He must know other guitar players I thought.... so... it was pretty nice that heI called me knowing how I felt.
Within a few days I was talking with Jerry. He's keyboard player and defacto leader of this new project. We exchanged our philosophy's on music and what we were interested in, and I sincerely started to get excited about the possibility of playing. I think in amongst the health issues and everything else, the daunting task of trying to find musicians must have been weighing in heavier than I thought. Here I was with the only thing between me and gigging again being my ability to get back up to speed. As it turns out, Jerry hasn't gigged in about 5 years himself. The bass player is playing around currently and the drummer just came back from Alaska where he was injured and recently underwent surgery on his shoulder.
Last weekend I met the rest of the band Dave (bass) and Brad (drums) at the Greater Seattle Vintage Guitar Show. We seemed to get along just fine chatting for about an hour which is a good % of any band working, so from there a plan was hatched. We'd choose a few tunes, learn them, then get together and see what they sounded like. We are all actively looking for a singer as well.
